Designer 5 offers a greater amount of resolution for patterns. Due to changes in the formatting of patterns in Designer 5, patterns created in Designer 5 may not be backwards compatible. This means that patterns created in Designer 5 will not be able to open in earlier versions of Designer. In this article, you will find a method to make your patterns compatible with all versions of Designer.
For this method, you will need to have a Sculptor license. If you need information on how to install Sculptor, please click here. Pattern Depot will offer you the option to purchase these higher-resolution patterns in the future.
Open the Pattern In Sculptor
Once your pattern is created in Designer 5, and you wish to take it to an earlier version of Designer, you will first need to open the pattern in Sculptor. To open a pattern in Sculptor, you can right-click or double-click on the pattern in your pattern list to open it in Sculptor.
Load the Pattern In Sculptor
When the pattern opens in Sculptor, you will see your pattern on the right side of the screen. On the left, you will see the import tab. Click Accept. Make any adjustments necessary to the pattern. Once ready, click on the export tab. You will need to click on ‘Export PTR’.
This will create a PTR file of your pattern. You will be able to open these files using Designer to load the pattern into your pattern list.
