STEP-BY-STEP DESIGN PROJECTS – LEARN BY DOING!
These Tutorials apply to all versions of Project Designer. Both BASIC and PRO
The following Design Projects will assist you in becoming familiar with the CarveWright Project Designer Software. They are interactive learning tools with you following the steps in your CW Project Designer software to create the projects.
They are PDF’s that include step-by-step instructions, pictures of the icons and definitions of the concepts being used. They require that you have Adobe Reader (Click Here to Download for Free) installed. Just print the instructions, set them beside you at your computer and follow them step-by-step in your CW Project Designer Software.
Some projects include features or patterns that may require a license before you can save and/or carve the projec, but most features are available in demo mode for you to learn and play with. You may also substitute pattens to create your own project, but still follow the steps. Patterns, if not licensed or part of the free BASIC Library, may be downloaded for FREE from the store in the TRY mode as a learning tool.
SOME OF THESE TUTORIALS USE PATTERNS NOT FOUND IN THE BASIC LIBRARY – SOME OF THEM ARE FREE TO USE, SOME WILL NEED TO BE PURCHASED IN ORDER TO CARVE. THEY CAN ALL BE USED IN THE TRY MODE WITHOUT PURCHASE.
THE BASICS OF PROJECT DESIGNER
Start With The Basics – The Basic Shell Project demonstrates the basics of using the software. Set your project dimensions, place & position patterns, and upload the project to the memory card.
Live, Love, Laugh Decorative Sign – This project also covers fine tuning & optimization of your project with depth, height, feathering & draft; use of the text tool, drawing tools, regions, textures, & carving list; changing the board settings and selection of quality settings.
My First Carve – Great starter project using the basics of Project Designer by placing and positioning patterns. REQUIRES DOWNLOAD OF FREE FOUR SEASONS PATTERNS ABOVE
Spring Blooms – Expanding on the “My First Carve” project using more Project Designer features, including text, regions, and textures. REQUIRES DOWNLOAD OF FREE FOUR SEASONS PATTERNS ABOVE
Winter Snowflake – Project that continues to introduce more tools, including the basics of optimization including feather and draft. REQUIRES DOWNLOAD OF FREE FOUR SEASONS PATTERNS ABOVE
Home of the Brave – This tutorial covers Installation & Activation of Patterns, Outline Path, Textures, using the Grid Tools, Grouping & Merge. THIS PROJECT USES A PATTERN THAT CANNOT BE PURCHASED, LICENSED OR CARVED. DOWNLOAD AND USE IN TRY MODE. Eagle and Banner (other eagle patterns can be substituted)
Summer Sun – Learn more about layering using depth and height and the pierced carving tool. REQUIRES DOWNLOAD OF FREE FOUR SEASONS PATTERNS ABOVE
Importing Images – There are several different image file types that can be used to import logos, clipart, photographs, scanned drawings, and more. This Design Project aims to assist you in overcoming some of the basic challenges.
Red Rooster Coffee – Project Includes many techniques including import image and clip carving. Use this image for importing the sunrise. THIS PROJECT USE PATTERNS FROM THE PATTERN DEPOT. DOWNLOAD AND USE FOR FREE IN TRY MODE. THEY CAN BE PURCHASED AND LICENSED. Decorative Rooster
Pierced Carving Projects – This project shows how to use the pierced carving tool, clip carving & drill holes.
Martian Ray Gun – Martian Ray Gun sign project reinforcing the features learned from previous tutorials. THIS PROJECT USE PATTERNS FROM THE PATTERN DEPOT. DOWNLOAD AND USE FOR FREE IN TRY MODE. THEY CAN BE PURCHASED AND LICENSED. Raygun, Atom Logo
Carving Your Cutouts; No Cutting Bit Required – This technique demonstrated how to carve your project all the way out of the board with using only the carving bit. This technique is perfect for doing appliques and other pieces where a bit change isn’t needed.
Curved Box Side – This project reinforces previously learned features and adds the surface tool, attachments, and the merge features.
PROJECT DESIGNER WITH ADD-ON FEATURES
House Number Sign – This project adds instruction in using drawing tools, grids & snap to grid; adding constraints; using Centerline Text (sold separately) and Conforming Vectors (sold separately), copy & paste, flip & rotate, creating a closed regions & staying under the rollers.
Lighthouse Welcome Sign – This 2 part project introduces several tools such as merging, clip carving, Conforming Vectors (sold separately), and cut path. THIS PROJECT USES AN UNAVAILABLE PATTERN, BUT THERE ARE SIMILAR IN THE PATTERN DEPOT. SEARCH FOR “LIGHTHOUSE”
Fall Leaves – This project uses advanced software DXF Importer (sold separately), Centerline Text (sold separately), Conforming Vectors (sold separately), Vector Drawing Tools (sold separately) to create this project. Vector Drawing Tool is the only one that is not available in demo mode.
Martian Ray Gun Box Lid – Turn your Martian Ray Gun sign into a box lid by adding more features available in basic Project Designer software. Uses Offset Tool from Vector Drawing Tools (sold separately).
3D Horse Head Project – This project uses Pattern Editor (sold separately) and STL Importer (sold separately) to take a deep scan and carve it into a multi-layered 3D object. THIS PROJECT USES AN UNAVAILABLE STL MODEL. THE STEPS CAN BE USED WITH ANY SIMILAR MODEL. THE PROJECT CAN BE PURCHASED IN THE PATTERN DEPOT. 3D HORSE HEAD SCULPTURE
Ray Gun – This tutorial outlines the process of importing an STL file using STL Importer (sold separately), Pattern Editor (sold separately), and Vector Drawing Tools (sold separately). THIS PROJECT USES AN UNAVAILABLE STL MODEL. THE STEPS CAN BE USED WITH ANY SIMILAR MODEL.
